Presentation of the CECC Annual Report for 2004

Tuesday, October 5, 2004
10:00 AM until 10:30 AM in Room 2255 of the Rayburn House Office Building

Chairman Jim Leach (R-IA) and Co-Chairman Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and other Congressional members of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) will present the CECC Annual Report for 2004 in a briefing on Tuesday, October 5, 2004, from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM in Room 2255 of the Rayburn House Office Building.  The briefing is open to the public and to the press.

Congress established the Commission in 2000 in Public Law 106-286, which not only gave the President the authority to grant Chinese imports permanent Normal Trade Relations tariff status, but also established the CECC to monitor human rights and the development of the rule of law in China.  The statute requires the Commission to report on these issues each year to the President and the Congress.   The 2004 Annual Report will be the third prepared by the Commission.
