CECC Releases Report on the Role of Prosecutors in Political Prosecutions in Hong Kong

(Washington)—The Congressional-Executive Commission on China released today a staff report detailing the role of prosecutors in carrying out the Hong Kong government’s hardline approach to dissent and pro-democracy views.
The report concludes that if Hong Kong’s Justice Department and prosecutors continue to expand arbitrary detention and political prosecutions, the United States and the international community should consider taking targeted actions to address the erosion of the rule of law, including through additional sanctions under the Hong Kong Autonomy Act and the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.
The full report can be found here and on the CECC website.
