The following is a partial translation prepared by the Congressional-Executive Commission on China of "Several Provisions on Strictly Enforcing a System of Case Hearing Time Limits," issued by the Supreme People's Court on September 22, 2000. The Chinese text was retrieved through a search of the PRC Ministry of Justice <a href="https://202.99.23.199/home/begin.cbs">Law Database</a>, on December 8, 2006. <hr> Article 1. The time limit in standard procedure first instance public prosecutions, first instance private prosecutions or second instance public prosecutions in which the defendant is in custody, or [other] private prosecutions is one month, and at most cannot exceed one and a half months; . . . Where one of the circumstances under Article 126 of the Criminal Procedure Law exists, upon approval or a decision by the high people's court of the province, autonomous region, or municipality directly under the central government, the time limit on hearing the case can again be extended by one month; . . . Article 9. The following periods are not counted toward time limits on hearing a case, or on enforcement: (3) The prosecutor finds that the case requires supplementary investigation, and makes a proposal to postpone the hearing, and the collegial panel agrees to postpone the hearing;
